Character - Self-Control
In this 90 minute session, we will explore the essence of self-control and its impact on our thoughts, behavior, and relationships.
1. What is self-control? Self-control is managing one’s impulses, desires, and behavior. Self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, leading to spiritual growth and maturity. Self-control helps us to be responsible stewards of God's gifts and talents. Self-control helps us resist temptation and avoid sin, preventing impulsive behaviors that can harm ourselves and others.
2. What is the importance of self-control? We need to develop self-control to experience personal and spiritual growth. Self-control is vital in particularly challenging or tempting situations, to achieve long-term goals, and to maintain personal integrity. God has power to shape us and our behavior by His Holy Spirit.
3. How do we practice self-control? God’s Spirit helps us to practice self-control. We need to bring every thought captive to God through discipline and practice. Developing a life of self-reflection helps us notice our thoughts and desires and how God can reshape them.
